January 2014 Highlights

**FYI: their service kind of sucks, particularly from one waitress (I'm really not quite sure how she still works there). But their food is really good, I just wish the service was better.

Restaurant Week 2014 - Jan. 14, 2014

1st Course:
~ Roasted Butternut Squash Soup w/ crème fraîche
2nd Course:
~ Blackened Sea Scallops 
    w/ chile-cucumber relish, white corn soft polenta and
    roasted grape tomatoes
~ Pepper Crusted Top Sirloin (*my entrée)
    w/ a shallot-bourbon demi-glace, mashed potatoes and
    braised brussel sprouts
3rd Course:
~ New York Cheesecake w/ raspberry coulis



Magpie Cafe

~ Mac & Cheese
    w/ jack cheese, bacon, brussel sprouts, bread crumbs and
    blue cheese

In the spirit of Chinese/Lunar New Year, I made...

~ Chinese Almond Cookies (Grandma's recipe)

I also made some without the actual almond on the top since I am actually allergic to nuts (the dough does not contain any real nuts, only IMITATION almond extract)
